This varietal of strawberry is “June Bearing,” and makes big Sweet berries from Early June to late June

It is from the Cornell Research Station in NY state, and has been a favorite variety for 30+ years. It combines winter hardiness, high productivity, along with a great tasting firm, large-sized, easy to pick berry. It also freezes well for long term storage. Honeoye is a vigorous plant with no soil-disease resistance.  It remains our #1-selling, early-midseason variety.

(Vibrant x Holiday)

Sun: strawberries thrive in full sun.

Soil: They like nutrient-rich, loamy soil with excellent drainage.

Water: In the garden, about an inch of water/week will do. Up the watering frequency if growing in a container.

Zones: 3 to 8.

Height/Spread: strawberries will grow to 12 inches high and 24-36 inches wide. They send runners and will colonize an area over time. You should thin out the older ones each year. Once they diminish quality, usually every 4-5 years, it is a good idea to tear them out and start with younger propagations.
